About Bree

I am Bree Day, an Australian photographer and visual artist based in a small outback town in Central Queensland.
 

My work is shaped by nature, motherhood, mental health, healing through creativity, and the quiet details often overlooked in everyday life. I am drawn to botanical forms, texture, translucency, pattern, and the strange beauty that can emerge when something familiar is seen in a different way.
 

For many years I worked as a family portrait photographer, before stepping back to focus on my health, my family, and my own creative practice. During that time, I began creating nature mandalas as a form of mindfulness, collecting leaves, pods, petals, and fragments from the natural world.
 

What began as a quiet ritual slowly grew into a deeper botanical exploration through the camera. My practice now centres on fine art photography, particularly in-camera double exposures, abstract botanical imagery, and experimental ways of transforming natural materials into layered, atmospheric works.
 

The name Smudged Art began with the ritual of smudging my nature mandalas. Over time, it has come to represent something broader: the idea that beauty does not need to be perfect, polished, or untouched to hold meaning.
